Symbol search is the matching engine behind adding and editing symbols. Pick a cell and it finds every look-alike on the chart, ranked by how closely it matches, with sliders to tighten or loosen the net in real time.

You meet the search whenever you add a new symbol or edit an existing one from Set Symbols.

Tuning the Search

Match sensitivity

The primary slider sets how close a match must be. The results re-search live as you move it, and your settings are remembered.
Icon or colour first
Choose whether matching leads on the symbol's shape or its colour. Colour-first is disabled on black-and-white charts.
Filter / refine
Turn on a second criterion to narrow a large set of candidates down to the confident ones. Cuts a big match list down fast.
Match results
A grid shows every matching cell, ranked by how closely it matches, with a running count. Tap cells on the chart to include or exclude them by hand.

Did you know?

  • Backstitch lines across a symbol do not fool it. The search recognises symbols even with backstitch printed over them, a common problem with older tools.
  • Search by colour on coloured charts. When the glyphs are tiny or faint, the hue is often the more reliable signature, so lead with colour-first.
  • Every match comes from your own chart image. There is no generic symbol bank, so the search compares like with like and stays accurate on unusual fonts.
  • Noisy scan? Loosen the sensitivity to catch more candidates, then use the refine filter and hand taps to throw out the strays.
