Configure Symbol Setup controls how you create and rebuild symbols on the Set Symbols step. Use the Settings section to make everyday symbol entry faster, or use Rescan Symbols when you need to rebuild the chart's symbol setup.

Open this form by selecting the Build button on the Set Symbols toolbar. Changes to the three switches take effect immediately. A rescan runs only when you select the action button at the bottom of the form.

Choose What You Want to Change

Two Areas, Two Different Jobs

Settings
Tell Markup whether this is a colour chart, then choose shortcuts for saving a new symbol and searching every page. Full guide.
Rescan Symbols
Rebuild the symbols from embedded PDF data, or scan the page images to identify which grid squares are populated. Full guide.
Rescanning replaces the current symbol setup. Use a targeted edit when only one symbol is wrong. Rescan when you deliberately want to rebuild all existing symbols.

Close Without Rescanning

Select the X when you have finished changing the switches and do not want to run a rescan. The Settings switches are already applied, but simply changing tabs or closing the form does not rebuild the symbols.
