Use Symbol Details to correct one symbol's name and thread assignment. You can choose an exact manufacturer colour, create a two-thread blend and add a short note without changing the symbol's chart positions.
It forms part of the Set Symbol Colours step. Open it by tapping a symbol's colour swatch, or by selecting Edit while using Quick mode.
Symbol Details at a Glance
What Everything Means |
- Name and icon: Confirm that you opened the intended symbol, then keep the suggested name or enter one that will make sense in your symbol list.
- Thread colour: Choose the manufacturer and enter the colour name or number printed on the chart key. The swatch previews the recognised colour.

Name and Notes |
| Symbol icon: The icon is shown for identification. It is not changed on this form. |
| Custom name: Enter a name of up to 40 characters. A useful name can make similar symbols easier to distinguish throughout Markup. |
| Default name: The smaller line shows the name Markup derives from the selected thread colour. Tap the X beside the name to return to that default. |
| Add a note: Tap the note button in the title bar to add up to 100 characters. Select the check mark or use the keyboard's Done key to collapse the editor. The saved note is shown beside the Name heading when you reopen the form. |

Choose the Thread Colour |
| Choose the manufacturer first: Select the range used by the printed key, such as DMC or Anchor. The same number can represent different colours in different ranges. |
| Enter a name or number: Start typing and choose the matching suggestion. Markup searches within the selected manufacturer and shows the recognised colour in the swatch. |
| Switch the keyboard: Use the keyboard button at the bottom left to change between number entry and text entry. Number entry is quicker for ranges that use numeric codes; text entry is useful for named colours. |
| Browse the palette: Use the palette button when you want to browse colours visually. Choosing a palette colour applies it to the active colour row and saves the form. |

Create a Blended Colour |
| Add the second thread: Tap the plus button at the end of the first colour row. A second row appears for the other thread in the blend. |
| Set each colour independently: The two rows can use different thread ranges. Check both manufacturers, numbers and swatches before saving. |
| Remove the blend: Tap the delete button on the second row to return the symbol to one thread colour. A symbol can contain a maximum of two colours. |

Save or Cancel |
| Save: Applies the name, note and recognised thread colours to the symbol, then returns to the screen that opened the form. |
| Invalid colour: If a colour is not recognised in its selected range, the form stays open and marks that row. Choose a suggestion or correct the range before saving again. |
| Cancel or close: Cancel and the X in the title bar both close the form without applying any changes made during that visit. |
Did you know?
- The default name follows the colour. If you have not created a custom name, choosing another valid thread colour updates the suggested name automatically.
- Notes are optional. The note editor remains collapsed until you need it, keeping the form compact for routine colour changes.
- The palette targets the second row when a blend is open. Remove the second row first if you want the palette to replace the first colour instead.
- Cancel really does discard the visit. The form edits a working copy and only applies it to the symbol after a successful save.
