Custom overlap is for charts whose overlap is not the same everywhere: some designers vary the duplicated rows and columns from join to join. In Custom mode you set the amount per seam: a Top or Bottom value applies across a whole row of pages, and a Left or Right value down a whole column.
Work seam by seam: pick a page, set an edge, watch the preview, then move on. Nothing is committed until you press Next on the Set Overlap step.

Per seam, not per page: selecting a page simply tells the app which row and column you are adjusting. A Top or Bottom value trims every page across that row, and a Left or Right value trims every page down that column, so the pages either side of a seam always change together. |
| Why the whole seam: designers keep the overlap consistent along a join, so if two duplicated rows need trimming from the top of one page, the page beside it needs the same trim. Applying the value along the whole seam keeps each row the same height and each column the same width, so the chart still fits together. |

Setting It Up |
| 1. Select Custom: tap the L-shape chip until the title bar shows CUSTOM Overlap Selected. The four edge buttons appear. |
| 2. Pick a page: tap any page to select it. The panel shows which page you are working on as "Page N (Row R, Col C)"; without a tap, the page most visible on screen is used. This choice sets which row and column your edge values apply to. |
| 3. Choose an edge: the Top / Bottom / Left / Right buttons each show that edge's current value for the selected page. Tap the edge you want to change. |
| 4. Set the amount: step the value up and down while the preview redraws; zoom into the seam and stop when the pattern flows across without a repeat. Repeat for other edges and pages as needed.

| 5. Apply with Next: back on the step, Next trims every page's grid in one pass and recomputes sizes, cell counts and symbol counts. Existing marks are carried across. |
Did you know?
- Start from the obvious seam. Zoom into the join you can read most easily, count the duplicated cells there, and use that as your first value. The preview makes the remaining joins easy to judge one at a time.
- Values are capped for you. Each edge's amount cannot exceed what the pages in that row or column actually have, so you cannot trim a page away to nothing.
- Switching type resets. Moving between Top Left, Bottom Right and Custom resets the amount to zero, so a half-set custom layout does not silently mix with a uniform one.
