Top Left overlap means each chart page repeats the last few rows and columns of the pages above and to the left of it. Specifying a single amount will remove this overlap across the whole chart, so it is quick to do. Overlap is usually shown as greyed out rows/columns on the chart. Just pick the right amount.

Top Left Overlap. The 3 grey shaded colmns are duplicated from the previous page.

How Top Left Overlap Works |
| Where the overlap is located: on the top and left edge of each page. The first 'X' rows and columns of a page are a repeat of the last 'X' rows and columns of its previous pages above and to the left. The overlap amount used can vary between designers. |
| What gets removed: the specifed overlap amount is used to remove that number of rows and columns from the left and top edges of each page, Pages in the first column contain no left edge overlap. Pages in the first row have no top edge overlap. The outer edges of the chart are never touched. |
| One amount everywhere: the same overlap amount applies to every page join, which is how most chart designers print overlap. |

Setting It |
| 1. Select the type: tap the L-shaped button until the title bar shows TOP LEFT Overlap icon (across the top and down left edge), shown as first icon below: |
| 2. Count the duplicates: zoom into the join between the first two pages and count how many columns are printed on both sides of the seam are duplicated. Usually the overlapping rows are greyed out on the second page for Top-Left overlap. |
| 3. Set the amount: step the value up and down; the tiled chart pages redraw in realtime so you can watch the overlapping rows and columns disappear and the pages adjust accordingly. When the pattern flows across the pages seam without any repeating stitches, the amount is correct. |
| 4. Apply with Next: Next trims every page's grid and recomputes sizes, stitch counts and symbol counts. Existing marked up grid squares should be preserved, if any. |
Did you know?
- The corner questions choose this for you. On your first visit to the Set Overlap page for a new project, answering the top-left corner question with a count above zero selects Top Left automatically. Click Confirm to review all pages in the pattern.
- Check a second join. If the amount that fixes one seam breaks another, your chart's overlap may not be uniform across your chart: switch to Custom Overlap instead.
- Known designer charts preset. When the known designer's chart specifies a Top Left overlap, the amount is seeded for you and the preview shows the trim, so you just confirm it.
