This is the detailed guide to the Set Symbols screen: how symbols are detected, how to repair them by hand and what each control means. If you are not yet sure what work your chart needs, start with Set Symbols.
The title bar shows your progress as "Set Symbols: N% (a of b)", counting the cells assigned so far. The deeper tools each have their own page: adding a symbol, editing a symbol, symbol search and Erase Mode.
Finding Symbols
Detection Controls |
| PDF data or image scan [Screenshot: the detection setup popup showing the PDF-data quality badge and the image-scan tab] Choose how symbols are found: from data embedded in the PDF, or by scanning the page image. A quality badge (None / Low / Medium / High) rates the PDF data, and a green tick marks the active source. |
Scan All Pages Re-detect every symbol across every page in one run. It replaces manual edits, so it warns you first. Tap the busy overlay to cancel a running scan. |
Refresh current page Re-detect symbols on just the current page using the saved settings. Multi-page charts only; it confirms first. |
Colour chart detection The app senses whether the chart is coloured and picks its strategy: icon-first for black-and-white, colour-first for coloured. A toggle lets you override it. |

Page headers and flags Each page shows its number and symbol counts, and flags any outstanding grid problem. |
Did you know?
- Returning later never silently re-scans. Your manual edits stay safe unless you deliberately refresh or scan again.
- You cannot leave mid-scan. Tap the full-screen overlay to cancel cleanly.
- Delete All is undoable. It confirms first and leaves the grid untouched.
- Replaced a page? Its symbols are re-detected when you return, while existing manual edits are kept.
